About Patrick James Eggle Guitars

Formidable Luthiery Skilled Instruments

Patrick has over three decades of experience in building some of the world’s finest electric guitars. He uses the lightest, most resonant and visually stunning tone woods available with micro thin finishes, peerless hardware and hand wound pickups. Limited production ensures closest possible attention to detail is paid, creating truly unique and visually stunning instruments every time.

PJE’s instruments have evoked highest praise from both artists and press and have been owned and played by icons such as Toni Iommi, Albert Lee, Brian May, Rory Gallagher and Graham Coxon to name but a very few.

Now husband and father, these days, Patrick works with a small team of craftsmen, producing a limited number of high end electric guitars from his bespoke workshop in Oswestry. His aim is to produce guitars that are not only visually striking, but also demonstrate superior play-ability and tone. Every single guitar produced, is blended together with expert precision and execution, ultimately culminating in the very finest of instrument.

Between tradition and innovation

What sets Patrick and his team apart from the rest is a cunning combination of technical innovation on traditional models and superior taste when it comes to design and visual appearance. For example when we look at the Macon Single cut it is easy to spot to similarities with the Les Paul model. and although Patrick says  “I wouldn’t presume to improve upon a Les Paul,” but when we look at he neck body joined, we see that is exactly what he did. Getting to a Les Paul’s upper frets is a problem for many and was a main point of concern for Patrick, hence he’s chosen a ‘slipper’ neck-to-body joint. Not only does this look very elegant, it allows far better acces to the upper frets.

Another destighuising feature of Patrick Eggle guitars are the way his necks and back and sides of the bodies feel. They are hand-burnished so they sit somewhere between satin and gloss. The lacquer is sprayed as it normally would be for a gloss finish. PJE then flat that back by hand and finish with a fine steel-wool and wax. The neck is gunstock oil and steel-wool.

Acoustic roots

It’s not widely known, but Eggle spent time in America studying acoustic guitar making with the builder of James Taylor’s guitars, James Olson. He brought this knowledge, and a slew of his own ideas, to a range of high-end acoustics using exotic timbers and fancy inlays. Some of his knowledge and skill in this field is now translated in his boutique rage of electrics. Also it was used the design the Faith acoustic guitar range. Well build modern instruments that are available at a attractive price point. Although Patrick Eggle does not build these instruments in his own workshop, they are produced in Indonesia, his team still handles the design and quality assurence aspects.
